Journal Entry #2 of Marcus

Sorry I had to cut off my last entry so abruptly, we were acosted by a drunk dwarf and he vomited all over my book. It took me a few hours to clean off but now I can finally continue. After Criella and I came to terms with what we had signed up for, we decided to have a look at our new group member. The orc was still passed out and covered in bruises all over his body. But when I walked closer I could see countless scars covering his body. This orc had been in some serious scraps over his life. His tunic was rather simple for someone who, at least I thought, a proud warrior. It wasn't until I saw his necklace that I understood why he hadn't stood up for himself against three other men. Around his neck hung a necklace bearing a hammer on top of a bed of flowers. This orc was a cleric, and from the looks of it had taken a vow never to take up arms against any living creature. "Criella," I whispered and pointed at his symbol. "I think we did the right thing rescuing this guy, if we hadn't, he never would've lifted a finger."

"Fanatics."  Criella shook her head.  "Men like he would rather die than protect themselves, I do not understand it."

"You don't understand it because you've had to fight for your life every step of the way."  I had to laugh at that.  "When I found you, the first thing you did was put a dagger to my throat."

"Only cause you attacked me first."  She giggled and took a sip from the ale before her.  "And I was eating."

"You were on your knees if I remember correctly."  I followed her example and drank as well.  It was filled with some bread things that I couldn't describe.  "Stuffing your face with scraps thrown at you."

Criella shivered at the memory.  "Let's not talk about that anymore.  That time is behind me."   As she takes another sip, her hand instinctively goes to her neck, making sure the collar remains not there.

I nodded and immediately dropped the subject.  "So what should we do?  Wait for him to wake up, and then go?  Or should we leave him here and just take care of the Kobolds ourselves."  At that moment the orc stirred and began to wake.

"I guess that answers that question for us."  A chuckle escapes her throat as her jug of ale is emptied.  "Though we should get some rest before we head out no?"

"Yes, I suspect that the innkeeper has some rooms available, judging by the emptiness of the inn?" I was right, the inn had emptied after we stopped the fight, apparently most of them had just been here for that  "Look let's leave him here for the night and then we'll be on our way in the morning.  I'll make sure that the innkeep looks after him while we're gone."

The greedy innkeeper barely looked at me as he uttered his price of five gold pieces protection money for our new cleric ally.  I tried to protest but in the end I realized it was no good and just slid him the money to avoid further conflict.  As I walked up the stairs I took one last look at the figure sleeping in the corner.  "Lets hope you're more useful tomorrow.  We're gonna need you."
