The Lost Islands
This was a script I wrote as an idea for a friend of mine who wanted to develop his own, Far Cry style survival game. It is an introductory cinematic and should be read as such
>>
Black Screen, with video intro
EXT. PLANE. DAY
Camera starts as a fixed point from behind the shoulders of
the PILOT and COPILOT. The PILOT is
talking to a camera over the shoulder of the COPILOT. PILOT voice is grainy as being heard through
the headset of the plane.
Outside the window can be seen a light blue ocean with a
seemingly endless amount of green jungled islands with pure white sandy
beaches. Some seem to have towering
cliffs while others seem completely flat
PILOT
As you can
clearly see out the window, we have completely left the civilized world behind
for favor of these beautiful jungle islands.
Most of these pockets of land remain unexplored to this day and some are
even rumored to host a tribe that has the potential to be as ancient as any
other civilization on Earth.
-PILOT
pauses his speech to reach behind and grabs a small stone snake from a bag
stashed behind the seat. The sculpture is about a foot long and pretty crude in
its make as if the sculptor did not have refined tools
PILOT
Now this
small figurine is all we’ve been able to find of this so-called lost
tribe. It seems to be a depiction of a
large sea monster that according to this inscription here,
-PILOT
points to a small section on the fin where worn symbols are visible
PILOT
This is the
(insert name), a massive sea serpent that is seen as a God of this tribe we
call the Orokai, or the Lost ones. Now
you might be wondering how we were able to translate this inscription if no one
has ever seen this tribe before. Well that is a good question you see…
COPILOT
Lookout!
-The PILOT
looks away from the camera and turns his eyes back onto the front of the plane
where suddenly a great many trees move into frame
PILOT
Shit! Hold
on!
-The PILOT
drops the figurine onto the cockpit floor shattering it while he grabs hold of
the steering wheel but it is already too late.
The left wing gets clipped on a palm tree, sawing the light metal in
half
PILOT
Fuck, I
can’t hold her.
-The COPILOT
grabs the radio and begins to call mayday
COPILOT
Mayday,
Mayday, this is Sierra-Three-Niner-Zero, we’ve lost our left wing and are going
down somewhere over the Orokai island chain.
Send help immediately!
-Screen goes
black abruptly followed by the sound of a crash and an explosion.
>>The
player now sees things from the eyes of the PILOT, who is shielding his eyes
from the bright flames.
-The plane
seems to have drifted further on the beach and not caught fire to any of the
palm trees on the island. Only a few of
the trees seem to have been disrupted by the plane at all.
-The COPILOT
holds his hands to his head and watches the plane burn out
COPILOT
Dude! Our
footage is still in there. What are we
going to do?
PILOT
I don’t know
dude, I don’t know.
-PILOT puts
hands to his head, then pushes the COPILOT
Why didn’t
you pull the camera out when you climbed out of there?
-The COPILOT
looks shocked and angrily at the PILOT
COPILOT
Me? It was your job to keep us in the air, good fucking job,
Dude.
-The COPILOT pushes the PILOT and a fight ensues before both
of them calm down
COPILOT
Look we both
made mistakes but we aren’t going to be able to fix them just by sitting on our
asses.
-The COPILOT
looks across the shallow water and sees that the next island over has a large
mountain tower that would be easy to climb and is no more than a hundred meters
away.
COPILOT
I am gonna go
climb that tower on the other island and see if I can’t spot any ships. With any luck someone saw the smoke and is
headed over now. You gather what
supplies you can find.
-The PILOT
walks back to the plane and begins to gather supplies. As the player and the PILOT watch the COPILOT
swim across the water, a ripple can be seen approaching rapidly with a massive
fin cresting over the water. Before the
PILOT even has time to call out, the COPILOT can be heard screaming as the
crystal blue water turns red until the fin moves back under and the water
returns to its calm state as if nothing happened. The PILOT stares at the water and falls to
his knees
PILOT
Shit man,
how. The FUCK! Did I let myself get
talked into this
>> The
player now gains full control of the PILOT also known as MICHAEL CONNORS, a
celebrity survivalist and frequent travel documentarist.
>>
Before the death of the COPILOT, MICHAEL had collected a pocketknife (1), a
medkit (3), some paracord (100 ft.) (can be cut into short rope strips) and a
giant parachute for hang gliding.
>>QUEST: Get back to civilization without touching the water
>>
Player will begin to cut wood and use his prepared schematics to create a
glider which he will have to run off the beach, jump and then land on the other
island
>>
ISLAND2: A rounded island with in the
middle a massive stone tower from where the PLAYER can look where they want to
go next
>> The
map icon is shown to plot the progress of the PLAYER’
>> The
PLAYER will have to carry the glider up to the top of the tower and then fly
off from there (easiest way would be to tie one end of the paracord to the
glider and the other to the waist of the PLAYER and then carry it up thusly)
>> If
the glider develops a tear in the fabric, the player can repair the damage with
a limited roll of duct tape.
>>
When at the top of the tower and looking down (cutscene?) the PLAYER will see,
under the crystal clear water a massive sea snake over a hundred feet in length
and well over the width of a school bus
PILOT
Holy cow,
how am I gonna get out of here?
